Saturday news
Mar. 21st, 2009 06:20 pmI'm not 100% sure how I feel about this. On the one hand, it's nothing you can't see if you drive down a road, on the other, maybe it is an invasion of privacy. It's not something I have to think about too hard at the moment as our area isn't shown, but how do/would you feel? Apparently some images have already been removed.
To my mind, if you don't want to be seen doing something you're embarrassed by or ashamed of, don't do it (as in the case of the man seen entering the sex shop...pwned)!
This, sadly, struck a chord with me as we recently had a visit from bailiffs with regard to an outstanding parking fine. The original fine was for £30, fair enough, but when I wrote to appeal the fine, I was told that there was nothing I could do. (I'd just come out of hospital following a visit for treatment of several severe migraines and had to park up quickly but safely to get some medication). The fine was then increased to £60 so I wrote requesting more time to pay it because of our income. No reply but I didn't panic as I knew they weren't the fastest in getting back to people. Then the bailiffs turned up. I was at work. They needed £400 by 7 that night or they'd be back. Talk about panic. I rang the council and they said they hadn't received my letter..."but I sent it on xxxxx" but they insisted they hadn't received it. I rang the bailiffs ofice and asked them if they had received my letter and they said they had but there was nothing they could do. In the end I had to swallow my pride and ask my ex-husband if he could help me. Thankfully he did but how belittling is that for my current husband? SO, despite the fact that I had tried to resolve the matter, because Royal Mail had failed to deliver a letter correctly, I had to pay 13 times the amount of the original fine. I'm not sure how that's fair or legal.
It's situations like this one that get traffic wardens such a bad name. I realise they have a job to do but when lives are at risk, common sense should over-ride the Highway Code!

Date: 2009-03-21 08:59 pm (UTC)I don't understand how these people can find themselves on it though. The shots of my neighbourhood seem to have been taken quite some time ago as a school next to me has since been knocked down.
