I think it's finally happened...

...my marbles have gone.

A friend posted the link to the announcement of Michael Jackson's death on a forum I go on.  It progressed for a while and then this...
You see, I DON'T think he was a musica genius.  I think he was mediocre at most.  I don't 'get' what the fuss is all about.  Yes, he was talented, far removed from genius though...he was just in the right place at the right time.

The way I see it is, anybody who writes their own lyrics, to me, IS a musical genius. People might not "get" him but I still think he needs respect. The poor guy has just died. I believe that mostly everyone who passes needs a little respect in death, he was never proved guilty in all the things that he was supposed to of done.....if he had, he would of been in jail.

I still think that the jokes are tacky & insensitive.

P.S forgot to add

If he isn't a musical genius, then why have people ripped his music, added it into there songs, done remakes of his songs, dedicated shows to him, copied his dance moves. If he isn't a musical artist then how has he inspired other musical artists to go out there & become an artist themselves? Justin Timberlake is very neary like him with his dance moves & his singing? He's also sold over a 1/4 BILLION records....that's quite impressive I think.

I'm sorry but that to me IS a musical Genius & IS a legand.

Just my opinion though. I understand that not everyone likes him but I still think he's deserves a little respect.

But you can say that about thousands of artists Cleza...and I don't like JT either

But you can say that about thousands of artists Cleza...and I don't like JT either
Not thousands but a few. Elvis, Lennon et al. Guess what.....they all had a media frenzy over their deaths too.

MJ didnt ask the media to go to town over his death. If you want someone to poke your finger at, poke it at the media.[/quote
]
Errrrr, I think I was wasn't I?  Didn't I say I was sick of seeing it everywhere?

Errrrr, I think I was wasn't I?  Didn't I say I was sick of seeing it everywhere?
Yes you did but you also resorted to personal taunts to reflect your disgust on the media's coverage of him.
Nope cos his last album was a major flop wasn't it? I would say the majority if people, if asked about MJ songs, would name stuff off Thriller, Bad or Off the Wall.

You see, I DON'T think he was a musical genius. I think he was mediocre at most. I don't 'get' what the fuss is all about. Yes, he was talented, far removed from genius though...he was just in the right place at the right time.
Who is it you don't like, MJ or the media?
What about that poor little Demi Leigh Mahon who was murdered? She didn't even get to live a life never mind the way she wanted to. Michael Jackson did!
It's down to the media to provide coverage. Millions upon millions know of Micheal Jackson. Only a small number knew of the girl Demi. The media make money out of big news and unfortunately its a sad case that Demi was not big news.

What?  How are those personal taunts?  I said he was talented.  It was actually stated on the news just after he died that his last album was a major flop and he was hoping to make good on that with his latest tours!

I didn't like him and I don't like the media's cover of it all...I don't see what you don't get?  I admitted to both

So if you disliked him before his death, why did it take until now to air your opinions on a messageboard?

WHAT???? Because it would have been a bit random to come on here one day and say, "Oh, by the way, I don;t like Michael Jackson", wouldn't it?

Exactly.

You have taken the opportunity to air your opinion, now that it has media coverage.

It is exactly the same as the media portraying the positive side of Micheal Jackson's life. No more no less, just different opinions.

I'm sorry Gav, I still don't know what you're getting it.  Laura posted about Michael Jackson, it sparked a debate.  I voiced my opinion.

Are you suggesting I come on here once a day and announce, just out of the blue that I do or don't like someone or something?

OK, in the vein of what I'm watching at the moment, I can't stand Valentino Rossi.  He's a good rider but he's an arrogant shit.  Random enough?

You missed my point entirely.

Media is made up of two kinds of news, good news and bad news or positive and negative news.

When MJ died, those who liked him will want to discuss the positive side of that news, those who disliked him will want to discuss their negative views.

Either type of discussion will fuel media coverage whether its international, national or on a forum.

Basically what I am saying is that by discussing MJ in a negative or positive manner will fuel discussion/media coverage.

Your opinion on MJ is one your entitled too. Just as those who liked MJ are entitled to their's. Either opinion whether right or wrong is being discussed all over the world. Hence the reason for such huge media coverage.

I'm still missing your point.

"When MJ died, those who liked him will want to discuss the positive side of that news, those who disliked him will want to discuss their negative views. "

"Basically what I am saying is that by discussing MJ in a negative or positive manner will fuel discussion/media coverage."

Which is why I was discussing it now and not some random post saying 'I don't like MJ'.  You asked why I felt I had to make it known now?  You've just answered your own question!

"Your opinion on MJ is one your entitled too. Just as those who liked MJ are entitled to their's. Either opinion whether right or wrong is being discussed all over the world. Hence the reason for such huge media coverage."

Where have I disagreed with this?
Now, I've either completely lost the plot or he has...maybe it's both if us...I don't know any more.  Can someone please explain this to me???
